RICHTER, CASSELL, O'DONNELL, AND LEE STAR IN OTSAR ALL-STAR SPECTACULAR
Brooklyn, NY, September 25, 2007 - Rangers all-time winning goalie Mike Richter, Los Angeles Clippers point guard Sam Cassell, NFL quarterback Neil O'Donnell and Knicks forward David Lee joined the children and adults who participate in Otsar programs, along with approximately 200 sponsors, at the first Meridian Presents Otsar All-Star Spectacular at Aviator Field in Brooklyn on Sunday, September 9.
Building on the tradition of the Otsar Grand Slam celebrity softball game for the past three years, the All-Star Spectacular included clinics for both Otsar clients and contributors with the former and current pro-athletes. New to this year's event were a sports auction, use of the rock-climbing and skating facilities at Aviator Field, and a VIP buffet with the players.
Otsar is a Brooklyn-based organization, established by family members of children with special needs in 1980 to provide quality programs and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
The newly opened Aviator Sports and Recreation complex is a concession for the National Park Service operating at Floyd Bennett Field, which includes two NHL regulation sized ice skating rinks, full-sized football, soccer and lacrosse fields; basketball, volleyball, and handball courts; rock-climbing walls; and a gymnastics center.
Event Chairman Benjy Berger, who is also a member of the Otsar board, said, "This event gave us the opportunity to offer an entertaining event for sports fans in the community - something the whole family could enjoy -- while supporting an extremely worthy cause. The gratifying response by corporate and individual sponsors to this event and our previous sports-related functions has enabled us to expand the services we provide to more than 700 families in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan , and Long Island with a developmentally disabled family member."
